Al Katz is an Augusta County resident who attended Annapolis with Jim Webb.
He DOES NOT support Webb for Senate.
He had a Letter to the Editor in yesterday's Staunton News Leader. In it he explains why he feels Jim Webb does not have the character it takes to lead as our state's U.S. Senator ... and he explains why he is backing George Allen.
Allen represents true leadership

To the Editor:
Beware of the values of the leader. The values held by a leader dictate the outcomes they promote. George Allen's values are strongly rooted in faith, family and freedom. Jim Webb's values appear to be rooted in secular-progressivism. This means they are on opposite ends of the value spectrum. George Allen stands for the traditional values that have made this country a success. Jim Webb now represents the secular-progressive values that desire to change this country into a socialistic state.
Who is the real Jim Webb? He keeps changing and will not clearly define his issues. Under President Reagan, he was a Republican and supported the Republican platform. When he was the Secretary of the Navy, he did not get his way in the budget process, quit and became a Democrat. I went to the Naval Academy with him and served under him when he was the Secretary of the Navy. Today, I see a man very different and dangerous to our Commonwealth and country.
"Born fighting?" Fighting for what? Retreat from Iraq? He wants to negotiate with people who have one objective — eliminate us and Israel from existence. He is fighting for an agenda that will radically change the culture of the United States. Why else would Hillary Clinton donate to his campaign? He does not support the marriage amendment when our society needs to reaffirm two-parent (male and female) homes that support their children.
Jim Webb declared that "the battle" was no longer a battle between conservatives vs. liberals but traditionalists vs. progressives. This is the mission of the secular-progressive agenda: to change this country's culture away from our Founding Fathers' concept. He also stated that being the senator from Virginia was not a high priority (Alexandria debate.) What? We need a senator committed to representing Virginia.
For these reasons, I am supporting George Allen to continue as our senator. I am confident Sen. Allen's values are the ones we need to lead this nation through this very difficult time in our nation's history and will provide my children and grandchildren a safe and prosperous world in which to live.
