Creigh Deeds won the Democrat nomination for governor ... the state senator from Bath County who is seen by many as moderate when it comes to Democrats.
Problem is ... he is no moderate. DJ explains why Creigh Deeds is actually Virginia's version of Jimmy Carter.
Ouch.
DJ points out that the Washington Post endorsed Deeds which was a death knell for Brian Moran and Terry McAuliffe ... but why did the Washington Post endorse the gentleman from rural southwestern Virginia? DJ concluded:
In other words, Creigh Deeds won the WaPo endorsement, and the momentum it generated, and the nomination the momentum garnered, because he was the biggest tax-and-spend lefty in the field. In his own words, Sen. Deeds called himself "progressive" ... the catch-word of MoveOn.org, George Soros, and the Hollywood left ... in other words, liberal. He also declared in February that he would not sign a no-tax pledge.
Pay attention, Tea Party attendees. After standing up against more taxes, the last person you need in Richmond is Creigh Deeds who wanted to raise the gas tax last year, and has voted for a boat-load of other tax hikes that will be blogged about in the weeks to come. The race is on and now is the time to let others know the reasons we need Bob McDonnell in the Governor's Mansion.
It is time for Republicans to join together against the real opponent ... the Democrats. Let the race begin.

'Progressive' usually means someone who favors government that intervenes to keep large corporations off of people's backs, and takes care of the sick and poor, while leaving their guns alone. A 'progressive' also believes in a government that conserves natural resources without all of the tree-hugging sentimentalism.
You know, like Teddy Roosevelt.
If Creigh is Virginia's version of Jimmy Carter, I guess I'm ok with that. I am perfectly happy to see him serve a single 4 year term of office.
I first joined the NRA because they endorsed Creigh in 2005. He voted to let me carry concealed in restaurants with ABC on permits. And he has co-sponsored a whole lot of legislation with Republicans in Richmond. The man has proven his centrist conservative bona fides and he's got my vote in November.
Not that McDonnell is a bad guy or anything. I really liked that congratulatory speech he made last night. Good guy, Bob McDonnell.
So, Jack, "progressives" support a Nanny State while "supporting" the 2nd Amendment? Creigh Deeds is but one 2nd Amendment rights supporter in a sea of liberal anti-gun believers. Deeds is also fond of taxes, supporting many in the four years since losing to Bob McDonnell in the AG race. I've heard he's a nice guy but have never met him ... but I do not agree with his voting record.
Bottom line is that you backing Creigh Deeds is like me backing Bob McDonnell ... we support our Party's candidates.
Jack sees that Creigh is pro 2nd Amendment and the fact that he has joined in voting with Republicans on bills (many Democrats have done that) and suddenly is is the idea candidate. Jim Webb is pro 2nd Amendment also, but you see where that got us. He supports Obama basically 100% of the time.
Jack, did you support Creigh when he voted to increase the gas tax by 30 cents. I doubt many of his fellow REpublican colleagues in the senate voted for this.
I am sure by the end of summer there will be two Creigh Deeds...the Northern Virginia Deeds that voted for tax increases and the Rural Virginia Deeds that is pro 2nd Amendment. During his hectic Campaign, I hope he hires someone full-time to tell him what part of the state he is currently in. Can you imagine him accidently giving his 30 cent gas tax increase in Augusta County
