Careful while you're gardening 'cause there's snakes out there
My parents live in Midlothian outside Richmond. Mom was telling me today about a friend of theirs from church who was gardening in her yard yesterday and was bitten by a copperhead, sending her to MCV Hospital for treatment and an overnight stay.
Mom is very familiar with copperhead bites. Years ago, while walking along a wooded pathway on my step-dad's family farm near Fredericksburg, a copperhead that was hiding under the fallen October leaves struck her on the foot, sending her to the hospital in Fredericksburg for three days. Thankfully, she recovered fully and, hopefully, her church friend will do the same. Snakes on the prowl in this hot weather ... keep an eye out.
