RPV faithful depart from Homestead
In late afternoon as my family sat in the Great Hall we saw Jeff and Amy Frederick on their way to the front desk to check out and head home. They stopped to say hello and chatted a few minutes before leaving. Another Advance has been filed away.Photo by SWAC Girl
Still snowing in Hot Springs
With a couple of inches of snow on the ground ... enough to cover everything and make it wintry-looking ... we awoke this morning to snow still coming down and a forecast of high temps in the 20s, low tonight in the teens, and extremely windy.
The 25th Republican Advance is over and we sat in the Great Hall this morning and watched as some activists checked out and left. By noon this place will be bustling as folks leave to drive back home.
It's a Winter Wonderland at the Homestead....

2008 Republican Advance ... Ken Cuccinelli wins straw poll
(Hot Springs, VA) - Ken Cuccinelli won today's Straw Poll for Attorney General at the Republican Party of Virginia's annual Advance with 47.8% of the vote in a three candidate field.
The Straw Poll took place in conjunction with a candidate debate featuring Cuccinelli, Dave Foster and John Brownlee, and was moderated by former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore. Both the debate and the Straw Poll were organized by the Republican Party of Virginia. Foster and Brownlee received 13.8% and 38.4% of the vote, respectively.
Don Huffman and my step-dad
The Donald Huffman Republican Advance is celebrating its 25th anniversary at The Homestead in Hot Springs. Started by then-RPV Chairman Don Huffman, it has served as an annual gathering of the Party faithful ever since.
While walking through the Great Hall Friday with my step-dad, he ran into an old Virginia Tech classmate ... Don Huffman. I had no idea they knew each other. Mr. Huffman was a rat cadet when my step-dad was an upper-classman in the Tech Cadet Corps during World War II.
Amazing. The world is, indeed, a small place.

2008 Republican Advance ... Day 2
There is much planned today for the Republican Advance with activities and workshops taking place all day.
Breakfast began with a great lineup of speakers -- Congressman Eric Cantor, State Senator Steve Martin, Outreach Chairman Chuck Smith, and many more -- but it was closed to the media and to bloggers.
That was a shame because Republican bloggers could have passed along the positive message that came out from those who spoke ... and speakers received standing ovations for the remarks they were making to the Party faithful.
The Attorney General debate begins at 10:15 so I will be heading out the door to that. There is no bloggers row so I am stopping by my room throughout the day to post updates.
Bloggers on the premises: the Kenney brothers, Alton Foley of I'm Not Emeril, Chuck Young from the Virginian Federalist, Krystle Weeks from Crystal Clear Conservative, and I read on his blog that Jim Hoeft is supposed to be here but haven't seen him yet. I hope all bloggers can catch up with each other at some point today.
The weather forecast is calling for snow later today. It is gray outside; overnight low was in the teens. It's perfect for a Christmasy getaway.
Stopped in one of the Homestead shops to buy a few Christmas ornaments and ran into Jerry Kilgore and his daughter.
I'm off for the Regency Ballroom and the AG debate....
