Rob Schilling ... welcome to the ODBA!

Rob Schilling is a multi-faceted man ... conservative radio talk show host, former Charlottesville City Councilman, blogger, husband, dad, teacher, Christian rock musician, business owner, real estate investor, and all-around conservative defender of freedom.

I posted about Rob in October of 2007:
A native of southern California, Rob relocated to Charlottesville in 1998 to enjoy what he describes as the idyllic lifestyle of our area. In addition to being an accomplished musican and singer-songwriter, Rob is also a savvy businessman.

In 2002, Rob was elected to the City Council as its lone Republican. A staunch defender of freedom, property rights and responsible, accountable government, Rob tirelessly fought for intelligent financial management and transparency in all City affairs.

In 2006, Rob fought for a controversial elected school board referendum, against seemingly overwhelming opposition, from entrenched political interests. In the end, with Rob's leadership, the measure passed by a significant margin, and local parents have been grateful.

Along with his wife Joan, and their son, Gabriel, Rob has made a distinctive and positive contribution to life in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
We're honored to welcome Rob to the Old Dominion Blog Alliance as another of the growing number of right-of-center bloggers.

We are the ODBA!

Rob Schilling returns to Charlottesville radio station

[From Keith Drake with the Albermarle Truth in Taxation Alliance]

You spoke. They listened.

And on Monday, January 26, The Schilling Show returns to the local airwaves in a new and expanded format!

Tune in to WINA AM 1070 on Monday at 12 noon to hear the return of The Schilling Show. And it gets better: Rob's program returns for a full two hours every day, Monday through Friday.

The Schilling Show is the local area's premier afternoon AM talk show. Without your support over the past month, it likely would have stayed off the air.

Please send a note of thanks to the management of WINA and Saga Communications who made it possible for Rob to return to WINA:

From Rob Schilling....

Dear ATTA Friends,

It is with humility and gratitude that I announce the return of The Schilling Show to WINA.

Just over a month ago, the show was unexpectedly cancelled due to corporate cost cutting. However, thanks to your ceaseless calls, emails and personal contacts with WINA and Saga management, they have reconsidered the value of my program to the community, and I will return to the airwaves at noon, on Monday, January 26, with an expanded two-hour version of The Schilling Show.

This never would have happened without your involvement. I am truly blessed to have such loyal friends and supporters.

Sincerely,

Rob

Rob Schilling's radio show cancelled in Charlottesville

Rob Schilling, the former conservative Republican Charlottesville City Council member, has been broadcasting on WINA AM 1070, getting the conservative message out to the masses. Friday he was notified his show unexpectedly cancelled effective immediately. Here is the information sent by former Albemarle GOP Chairman Keith Drake:
The Schilling Show Cancelled! Let's show Rob our support

Charlottesville, Virginia - December 22, 2008 -- If you're getting ready to tune into The Schilling Show in a few minutes on WINA AM 1070, you won't hear Rob Schilling and his program. Rob was informed after last Friday's show his program is cancelled effective immediately.

The cancellation of Rob's program is a huge loss to ATTA and the entire Albemarle / Charlottesville community. Rob was a consistent voice of fiscal conservatism and a champion of the rights of the average taxpayer and common citizen. Rob provided a forum to ATTA for our message: that local government should make every attempt to spend our tax money effectively and efficiently.

Indeed, Peter Wurzer and I were his final guests last Friday. We understand the cancellation was entirely a business decision in response to the tough economic times we're all facing, and that Rob's outspoken conservative message was not a factor. Also, the decision was made at the corporate level by Saga Communications (owner of WINA); and that local WINA management supported keeping The Schilling Show on the air.

This cancellation means WINA no longer broadcasts any local programming with a mainstream conservative theme. "Big government" programs such as The Coy Barefoot Show, The Rick and Jane Morning Show, and Saga Communications' separate Lib-Talk AM radio station remain in place.

Rob worked tirelessly for all of us, and I feel we owe him a bit of our time in return. Please contact the following individuals and let them know how you feel:

About the Albemarle Truth in Taxation Alliance (ATTA)

The Albemarle Truth in Taxation Alliance is a Political Action Committee (PAC) registered with the Virginia State Board of Elections. Its non-partisan mission is to promote more effective and efficient Albemarle County government, focusing on the budgeting process and taxation issues.

In 2007, ATTA educated citizens about a state law requiring a proportional drop in the tax rate when assessments rise more than 1%, and also the Albemarle Supervisors' proposed 30% tax increase. ATTA's efforts resulted in a public outcry against the tax increase and a nearly $10 million savings to taxpayers.

Following is a letter from Rob thanking everyone for their support:
Dear Friends,

Last Friday it was announced that on January 7, I will be rejoining WINA, weekdays from 1-2 PM and Saturdays from 6-9 AM, as host of the "Schilling Show."

This turn of events is due in large part to the many listeners like you who made the effort to contact WINA management (often more than once) in order to request my return to the air.

I'm grateful to you for the time you took on my behalf and for the many prayers offered toward resolution of my status as a radio host.

I look forward to continuing to serve the community in this unique way, and I'm honored to have this opportunity.

Thank you again for everything you've done for me.

Best wishes,

Rob Schilling

Rob Schilling ... needed back on the airwaves of C-ville

A "Bring Back Rob Schilling" movement is underway in the People's Republic of Charlottesville. Rob Schilling, the long-haired Christian rock singer/conservative who served on Charlottesville City Council as the lone Republican from 2002-06, spent the past year on WINA radio as a morning personality but was unexpectedly released in September. Rob helped put a "fair-and-balanced" perspective in an area that is overwhelmingly liberal.
