Staunton Independence Day Parade ... photos 2

Our own Yankee Doodle Dandy-ette. She was a sweetie throughout the parade.

Peggy sits in the shade of an evergreen, flags in hand ready to pass out along the way, waiting for the parade to begin.

Wife and husband ... Jan carried her new "baby," a golden lab puppy who was a hit with kids along the way.

Anne Bell greets a friend as Dickie looks on.

Mother and daughter.

Del. Dickie Bell and his wife, Anne, wait as the parade begins.

Talking while waiting for parade to start.

Balloons, balloons, balloons.

The Bells came prepared, and they had plenty of hands to help.

Staunton's Gypsy Hill Park is a two-mile route through the trees, past the tennis courts, Gazebo, swimming pool, volley ball court, horseshoe pits, ball fields, and playgrounds. It was lined with thousands, especially families, who came out to enjoy a typical Fourth of July in Staunton, Virginia.

He rejoined the military after 9/11 ... he was deployed to Iraq ... he continues to be active military ... and he may not be able to attend every meeting that is haphazardly scheduled during the year but he's been a volunteer for years in parades, at the polls as a Precinct Captain along with his wife, and at Support the Troops rallies. Thank you, Herb, for your service to our country and for your volunteer work for the Republican Party.

Volunteers with the float ranged from 11 months old through teenagers to 20-somethings, 30-, 40-, and 50-somethings, and retired. Thank you to all for your willingness to help.

Encouraging words from a mentor.

Peggy and her crew were busy blowing up Bell balloons.

That's what we want ... less spending and less taxes. Thanks, AFP, for standing up!

Luis waves at the crowds as he shouts, "Happy 4th of July! America is great!"

"Many hands make for light work." That was certainly true for Saturday's Independence Day parade as two dozen volunteers helped prepare the Staunton/SWAC float and walked with the float giving out hundreds of small American flags, candy, Dickie Bell balloons, and Dickie Bell lapel stickers.

Thanks to Staunton Republican Committee Chairman Alex Davis for organizing the float. Thanks to Luis Padilla for providing his patriotic truck to pull the float. Thanks to Langdon Reid for lending the trailer, and to Philip Guertler of Alpha-Omega Construction Company for lending the generator that brought George to life!

And thanks to my sister from Richmond and my daughter who helped blow up Dickie Bell balloons and hand them out along the parade route.
