If official records show the earth is cooling, how can libs claim we have "global warming"? Letter writer Dennis Avery from Augusta County asks that very question in the Staunton News Leader.

"Hell freezes over"

That was the headline in Investor's Business Daily last week when snow fell on Las Vegas, an event that had not occurred in some areas of Nevada since they began keeping weather records 70 years ago.

IBD reported:

The Associated Press claims that the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since Bill Clinton's second inaugural. But after it was discovered that NASA's James Hansen, Gore's chief scientific ally, had been fudging the numbers, the agency was forced to correct its data. The 10 warmest years turn out to be, in descending order: 1934, 1998, 1921, 2006, 1931, 1999, 1953, 1990, 1938 and 1939.

If there's a trend there, we don't see it. So is global warming man-made and an imminent danger? As the snow falls in Vegas, don't bet on it.

So I’m looking at all this wacky weather and asking a buddy of mine who’s an environmentalist -- you see, I live fair and balanced, I asked him, “What’s going on here?" ...

The first snow Vegas has seen in 30 years. Temperatures below zero in at least 12 states in the Midwest and west, the most so early in any year. And all coming after a hurricane season that brought largely bupkis this year.

“It’s all part of warming,” my friend reminded me. You see, his is not a new forecast, just a revised one. Where you can kind of have your environmental cake and eat it too. Where the earth getting warmer is warming, and the earth getting cooler is warming.

Global warming continues to be disputed by scientists worldwide. Winter 2008-09 has just begun.

Tell that to folks in Houston, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and southwestern Arizona's desert where snow has fallen for the first time in years ... and tell that to southwestern Colorado where four feet of snow fell this past week, and to all the other places that are experiencing snow, sleet, ice, and cold weather earlier than normal for the winter season.

Now comes news from the River Falls Journal by way of Icecap that western Lake Superior has iced over this early for the first time in 17 years:

Ice has formed on Lake Superior off the Twin Ports and near Bayfield, among other places. It is the first time in years that ice has formed on the lake this early in the winter season.

The western tip of Lake Superior has frozen over in December for the first time in recent memory, and that could mean a long season of ice angling that hasn’t been seen in years.

“We were just talking that it’s been something like 17 years since we had a good, long ice fishing season at this corner of Lake Superior,’’ said Russ Francisco, owner of Marine General sporting goods store in Duluth. “This is the most ice I’ve seen in December in years. … I wouldn’t go out yet, but if it stays cold and we don’t get a big wind, people will be out there fishing soon.’’

While ice remains unsafe — with an emphasis on unsafe — as it continues to move around off Duluth, seeing any ice this early has been rare in recent years. Francisco said the earliest safe ice will come in the small bays near the mouths of local rivers like the Lester and the French.

Francisco said in the rare years recently when Lake Superior has partially frozen, it’s usually in February or early March, after months of cold weather. Anglers and ice skaters had a few weeks of good ice in February 2007, for example, before temperatures rose and the ice blew out.

Cross-Country "Hot Air Tour" Kicks Off with Hundreds at Citizen Rally

WASHINGTON – One day before Earth Day, hundreds of citizens joined the grassroots free-market group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) for a rally in the nation’s capital to launch a cross-country hot air balloon tour aimed at exposing the unaffordable costs of proposed climate change policies.

The nationwide Hot Air Tour will make its first stop on April 30 with AFP’s huge seventy-foot hot air balloon in Kansas City, Missouri, before stopping at locations in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana, on its first leg. In all, the Tour will visit two-dozen key locations across the U.S.

"Elected officials at all levels of government are converting global warming alarmism into policies that will have devastating consequences for our economy,” said AFP President Tim Phillips. “We think American families need to know what these proposals will cost them – lost jobs, higher energy prices, and less freedom. We’re launching this Tour to educate citizens on unaffordable climate change schemes.”

Despite rainy weather, AFP’s Hot Air Tour kicked off on Capitol Hill, with hundreds of grassroots activists, including citizens from North Carolina, Virginia, and New Jersey, rallying against the proposed Warner-Lieberman cap-and-trade bill and other costly so-called “solutions” to global warming.

A recent Gallup poll indicated that the country’s economic situation is by far the greatest concern among likely voters, with high energy prices tying health care for third biggest concern. Despite the propaganda advanced by global warming alarmists, global warming did not even make the list. Yet proposals aimed at climate change would harm the economy and lead to drastic hikes in energy costs, for almost no environmental gain.

“We believe that people deserve to know how reactionary policies will affect their household budget,” Phillips concluded. “The one-sided greenwash on this issue is over; it is long past time that the economic impacts of these policies are made known.”

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an illusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmentally conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minute documentary segment.

I do not oppose environmentalism. I do not oppose the political positions of either party. However, Global Warming, i.e. Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you “believe in.” It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won’t believe a me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.

I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct. There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril. I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.

In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have been duped. The sky is not falling. And, natural cycles and drifts in climate are as much if not more responsible for any climate changes underway. I strongly believe that the next twenty years are equally as likely to see a cooling trend as they are to see a warming trend.
