One of my favorite historical subjects while growing up in Virginia was Matthew Fontane Maury, the "Pathfinder of the Seas." His story stood out to this school girl as I read books about his life, and he is remembered by a huge anchor and plaque in Goshen Pass along the banks of the Maury River.
He will be the subject at the Augusta County Historical Society on Thursday, February 21, in a program by Keith Gibson, historian and director of the Virginia Military Institute’s museum system. For more information check the article in the
Augusta Free Press.
