Interview with Bob Goodlatte just back from Iraq

Thursday night Congressman Bob Goodlatte interviewed with 6th District bloggers about his just-completed trip to Iraq and Afghanistan. While driving on I-66 heading to Roanoke (he had literally landed shortly before), his overview of the trip was interesting and detailed, and he listened to questions from the bloggers.

I will have more on this as I dissect my notes but one thing he mentioned was the stability of Iraq on this third visit and, for the first time, he and the other four Congressional representatives, including Virginia Congresswoman Thelma Drake, were allowed to stay overnight in the "Green Zone," something that was considered too dangerous in the past.

The Congressman also said the Armed Forces will be celebrating the 4th of July by holding reenlistment ceremonies and stated they have double the reenlistment numbers. This is an important statement in and of itself because these men and women have seen first-hand the developments in Iraq, they have risked their lives, and they are still reenlisting in the military.

On this 4th of July, we must remember those who fight to protect the freedoms we celebrate. God bless.

Congressman Goodlatte will arrive home late tonight and then head out tomorrow to celebrate Independence Day in three parades in the 6th District including the Staunton parade at 10:00 am.

Welcome home, Congressman Goodlatte!
