Missing hiker on Shenandoah Mountain - UPDATED

Search crews will resume looking today for a hiker who has been missing for three days on Shenandoah Mountain west of Staunton.

His vehicle was found parked near the Confederate Breastworks at the top of the mountain at the Augusta County-Highland County line. The Staunton News Leader has been following the story.

About 50 searchers Sunday continued the hunt for Staunton man Robert Fitzgerald returning without a trace of the hiker.

According to Augusta Sheriff’s Department, search crews began early Sunday morning until shortly after 5 p.m.

The 60-year-old hiker hasn’t been heard from since Monday and was reported missing Thursday.
Temperatures have already dropped to the mid-30s and are expected to drop lower tonight. Prayers for the safe return of Mr. Fitzgerald.
