Carytown ... For the Love of Chocolate shop

If you are looking for that special chocolate something for Christmas, you have got to check out For the Love of Chocolate in Carytown's Cary Court in Richmond. The aroma just walking in the door is enough to make you pick up a shopping basket and start looking.

For the Love of Chocolate is stocked to the rafters with every shape, form, style, and flavor of chocolate that you can possibly imagine from chocolatiers around the world. You can find everything from Neuhaus Belgian Chocolate ($15-$50), Lake Champlain milk and dark chocolate ($5-$30), and Joseph Schmidt's assorted chocolate and truffles ($5-$25) to a full line of the more accessible Lindt white, milk, and dark chocolates ($5-$35) and Giradelli chocolates ($1.50-$50).

There are so many adorable Christmas designs that I cannot even begin to describe them. Suffice it to say they would brighten up anyone's stocking.

It is a bit on the pricey side but most of the inventory is not something you will find in Target or other retail outlets. It is unique and perfect for that special holiday or occasion. We even found the 50% off aisle of Thanksgiving candy ... but, hey, chocolate is chocolate -- right? So we drove away with a large molded chocolate acorn filled with small chocolate acorns. Yum....

Carytown ... lunch at the Can-Can Restaurant

It was bustling at the Can-Can today but what a treat to stop for lunch at this popular restaurant in the Carytown section of Richmond. Our party of eight had to wait about fifteen minutes to be seated but it was worth it because the service was efficient and speedy ... and the food was wonderful. I would call it a "French-lite" menu -- not too overbearing but a taste of their cuisine. It was a great way to kick off our visit afterwards to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for the Eugene Boudin exhibit. Lunch for eight was $125, not bad for eight meals plus wine and beer. They also offer for sale a number of varieties of breads made on the premises. As we left, the line of people waiting for tables was backed up out the door....
