Smoke-filled skies over western Augusta County

The skies in western Augusta County were smoke-filled Thursday as smoke drifted east-southeast and raised questions about the origin. Someone on Facebook mentioned a controlled burn at Phillips Lick near Deerfield west of Churchville.

These photos were taken Thursday evening shortly before sunset looking west toward Buffalo Gap, North Mountain, and Elliott's Knob.

Meandering

While driving to Churchville recently for a meeting at the library, I took photos of the "neighborhood," that area west of Staunton that I call home. This is a neighbor's driveway.

Elliott's Knob looms over Augusta County

Elliott's Knob is the highest point in Augusta County. Located in the Appalachian Mountains, the fire road that is used for training by the Augusta Hotshots can be seen covered in snow. Bob photographed Elliott's from Staunton earlier this week ... and Phil had a photo of a different view from his property.
