Norm at Tertium Quids writes what I have noticed while reading the headlines going through the BNN aggregator today: It's an all-out liberal attack against Ken Cuccinelli in these last few days of the 2009 campaign season. It's obvious the Democrat memo went out.

They have given up on governor and lieutenant governor. They are walking in lockstep to try and take down Cuccinelli. One by one by one, the libs are trotting out blog posts with all kinds of wild charges trying to win at least one spot for their team.

Stand strong, Cooch.

Sen. Ken Cuccinelli ... through the eyes of a child

Her name was Loradana (pronounced laura-donna) and she was an 11-year-old home school student from the Shenandoah Valley. At the Americans For Prosperity Summit, she walked up to Sen. Ken Cuccinelli, a home school dad, and asked for his autograph. I could see the look of respect on her face as she watched him sign her AFP notebook ... this adopted child from Romania who is part of a conservative family that supports Sen. Cuccinelli in his run for Attorney General in 2009.

Loradana is from a family of six children. Her mom and I are friends from home schooling together and from politics. I helped teach an American Girl class for the home schoolers and Loradonna was in my class when she was eight years old ... and we bonded and are friends still. She is a special little girl with a big heart and an outgoing personality, and always has a ready hug for me whenever we see one another ... and we are both supporting Sen. Cuccinelli, a fellow conservative and a fellow home schooler.

We get NOTHING in return ... nothing

Sen. Ken Cuccinelli nails this one in his latest Cuccinelli Compass:

This is a follow-up to my Compass a view days ago about President Bush's nomination of liberal Democrat Anthony Trenga to the federal court in Alexandria. I made one error. I thought the Judiciary Committee would approve Mr. Trenga's nomination next week.

In fact, the committee will meet later today, Thursday, for an executive business meeting, so that it can approve Mr. Trenga's nomination then. Then Mr. Trenga will be swiftly confirmed by the full Senate before the Senate adjourns this Friday. So when a Republican president nominates a liberal Democrat to the federal bench, Harry Reid's Senate will act fast!

In the meantime, the President's four pending nominations to the Fourth Circuit, including Virginia district judge Glen Conrad, and the President's other nomination to the Alexandria federal court, that of David Novak (a Republican prosecutor that the Democrats don't like because he is tough on terrorists) will lapse, and these seats will be filled by Obama if he wins the election.

I'll say it again: It is a scandal that the Bush Administration is giving away judicial appointments to the other side without demanding concessions in return (such as the confirmation of David Novak to the same court or one or more of the administration's Fourth Circuit nominees). It amounts to political malpractice, and is an insult to those of us who labored in the vineyards to elect this President, because, among other reasons, we care deeply about judicial appointments (apparently more than the folks in the White House do). And professional Republicans and officeholders in Washington wonder why grassroots activists beyond the beltway are unhappy with our party and its leadership?

What was that again about electing a Republican President in order to get conservative judges....

Where We Are
Thanks to the generosity of people like you from all over Virginia, on July 15th we will report about $125,000 raised for the first financial report of our A.G. campaign. This is a very respectable start in the face of the 2008 elections, and I want to thank so many of you that made this initial success possible!

Additionally, we have already signed up hundreds of people who have committed to go to the 2009 convention to support our campaign. And it is those commitments, and getting them to the convention, that will decide our nomination contest. So please, if you have not signed up yet, please click here to commit to be a delegate at next year’s convention!

In addition to our good start at the grassroots, we’ve also been honored to obtain many endorsements, including over 30 unit chairmen, 6 of my Republican Senate colleagues, 16 of the Republicans in the House of Delegates, and 1 of the 2 Independents in the House of Delegates – Lacey Putney – the longest serving legislator in the 388 year history of the Virginia legislature (the legislature turns 389 on July 30th). All within just a few months of the commencement of our campaign. Thanks to all of these good folks for their support and their help.

Where We’re Going

This Week…
Well, judging by my driving and my schedule, it feels like ‘all over the place.’ This week I will be in SW Virginia, including Abingdon and Pulaski, with some stops on the way up and down I-81. If we don’t see you on this trip, we’ll be back plenty more! Please forward this on to anyone you know in Pulaski who might join us Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the Shoney’s in Dublin.

We’re having a fundraiser in Loudoun County on July 22nd. It will begin at 7PM at the home of Dan and Maureen Whalen at 43029 Battery Point Place, Leesburg, VA 20176. I hope we’ll see you there. I have recently been informed that there is a Loudoun BOS meeting that night, so we’d love to see those of you that are to the BOS meeting on the way there or on the way home!

Lobbying Opportunity/Need
The Department of the Interior has apparently extended the public comment period on their planned rulemaking related to the right to carry of law abiding citizens in our National Parks and Wildlife Refuges. The period was extended at the request of two very anti-2nd Amendment legislators, U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) and U.S. Representative Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona). They are hoping to flood the public comments with left-wing comments to keep you from protecting yourself in our parks.

I would ask each of you that are concerned about protecting 2nd Amendment rights to click here and select the icon next to "Add Comments" and put in your comments on the importance of allowing folks to carry in our national parks. The deadline (I think) is July 30th, so please don’t delay.
