9/11 tenth anniversary remembrances include former President George W. Bush

"I will not forget the wound to our country and those who inflicted it. I will not yield, I will not rest, I will not relent in waging this struggle for freedom and security for the American people."
- President George W. Bush, 2001

The National Geographic Channel will mark the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a series of special including one featuring former President George W. Bush. Reuters reported:
The National Geographic Channel will broadcast the hour-long interview on Aug. 28 as part of a week of programs on the cable network called "Remembering 9/11'' that mark the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

The interview was recorded over two days in May, without any questions being submitted in advance, the channel said.

National Geographic said Bush gives "intimate details'' of his thoughts and feelings in a way never seen before. Most of the interview is about the first minutes and hours of the day that Islamic militants hijacked four planes and crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Executive producer and director Peter Schnall said Bush, who has adopted a low public profile since leaving office in January 2009, brought no notes to the interview.

"What you hear is the personal story of a man who also happened to be our president. Listening to him describe how he grappled with a sense of anger and frustration coupled with his personal mandate to lead our country through this devastating attack was incredibly powerful,'' Schnall said.
"Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward, and freedom will be defended."
- President George W. Bush, 9/11/01

Staunton business remembers 9/11

Berry's Natural Way in historic downtown Staunton remembered 9/11 by displaying the American flag in the storefront window along with scenes from that fateful day and memorable quotes from President George W. Bush.

The afternoon sun reflected on the storefront window Friday, 9/11/09, the eight anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil by terrorists who killed 3,000 innocent people.

"I believe the most solemn duty of the American president is to protect the American people. If America shows uncertainty and weakness in this decade, the world will drift toward tragedy. This will not happen on my watch." --President George W. Bush

"America will never be intimidated by thugs and assassins. We are aggressively striking the terrorists in Iraq. We will defeat them so we do not have to face them in our own country." --President George W. Bush

We love this country. We remember a 9/12 America when we were all Americans, not Republican or Democrats. A sign on the door of Berry's Natural Way announces they will be closed Saturday:
We will be closed September 12 for the 9/12 March on Washington. Please pray for us as we fight for your right to purchase alternative medicines and remedies without government intervention. Fight the fight!

The sleeping giant has been awakened ... the giant is We the People!
The giant will ROAR in Washington on 9/12.
09.12.09 ... we have a rendezvous with destiny. See you in DC!

10:06 ... 9/11 ... United Flight 93 goes down in PA

The heroes of Flight 93 were ordinary Americans who reacted to extraordinary times. On a hijacked plane heading toward Washington, D.C. and possibly the White House or the Capitol building, and with the knowledge of what had already occurred that morning with the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, the passengers took matters into their own hands.

Ordinary Americans became heroes in their attempt to overtake the Muselim terrorists who had pirated the plane, causing it to crash into the countryside of Pennsylvania.

Flight 93 had heroes on board that day....

Todd Beamer - "Let's roll!"
The 32-year-old Oracle Corp. account manager from Cranbury, N.J., was believed to have helped lead a passenger attack on Flight 93 hijackers that prevented the jet from reaching its target, possibly the White House. Beamer spoke to a GTE operator on the plane's phone. His final words -- "Are you guys ready? Let's roll!" -- have become a rallying cry for the war against terrorism. Beamer and his wife, Lisa, had two sons. His daughter, Morgan, was born in January of 2002. Beamer played baseball and basketball in college and loved coaching youth sports. President Bush, in an address to the nation, praised Beamer as "an exceptional man." Today, the Todd M. Beamer Foundation aims to help kids deal with trauma and learn how to make choices.

Thomas E. Burnett Jr.
Burnett called his wife, Deena, to tell her about the Flight 93 hijacking and said he and other passengers were "going to do something about it." Burnett, 38, of San Ramon, Calif., was senior vice president and chief operating officer of Thoratec Corp., a medical research and development company. His wife and three daughters moved to Arkansas afterwards to be closer to her parents. The new Thomas Burnett Family Foundation plans to provide endowments for children's bereavement camps and leadership scholarships at selected universities.

Jeremy Glick
Glick called his wife, Lyz, after terrorists took over Flight 93. She patched the call to a 911 dispatcher, who told Glick about earlier attacks in New York. Glick told his wife some passengers had taken a vote, and "We're going to rush the hijackers." Glick, 31, of West Milford, N.J., had been a collegiate judo champion at the University of Rochester. His older sister, Jennifer, is president of Jeremy's Heroes foundation which is devoted to helping people build character through sports. The foundation has supplied sneakers to kids in Chicago and paid for 20 children in Washington to attend a soccer camp.

9:45 ... 9/11 ... White House evacuated

The Twin Towers had been attacked by airplanes an hour earlier ... Pan Am Flight 77 had flown into the Pentagon ... and now United Flight 93 was being followed on radar flying toward Washington, D.C. No one was aware of the struggled going on inside that aircraft as passengers, aware of terrorism attacks earlier that morning, vowed to take storm the cockpit and avoid whatever disaster the terrorist pilots had in mind.

The White House was evacuated at 9:45. Employees were urgently told by Secret Service to leave the building and, as that was underway, employees were then told to evacuate as fast as they could. Women took off their shoes and ran in their stocking feet out the White House grounds and onto the street and down the sidewalk.

Flight 93 would go down at 10:06 a.m. taking the brave souls with it who prevented further national tragedy. May we never forget the herorism of those on Flight 93.

9/11 ... may we never forget.

9:43 am ... 9/11 ... Pentagon attacked

The Pentagon ... the military nerve center of the United States ... was struck by terrorism at 9:43 a.m. on 9/11/01 ... and the terrorist attacks on America continued....

9/11 ... may we never forget.

9:30 am ... 9/11 ... President George W. Bush: "Freedom itself was attacked this morning..."

"Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward ... freedom will be defended." -- President George W. Bush, 9/11/01

At 9:30 a.m. on 9/11/01, after the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were attacked, President George W. Bush addressed the nation in a brief statement just 45 minutes after the first attack. The shaping of his new presidency was about to take a different direction as America entered in the war on terrorism with the President vowing to protect American citizens.

9/11 ... may we never forget.

9:02 am ... 9/11 ... second Tower struck

The second Tower of the World Trade Center was struck by a second airplane at 9:02 a.m. making no doubt America was under attack.

9/11 ... may we never forget.

8:46 a.m. ... 9/11 ... first Tower struck

The North Tower of the Twin Trade Center was hit by an airplane at 8:46 a.m. in a terrorist attack that began the worst attack ever on American soil ... a day that would continue to see terrorists strike America as the morning unfolded.

9/11 ... may we never forget!

9/11 and family....

I am in Richmond with family on this anniversary of 9/11. To me it is a day to pause and remember, watch the specials on TV, re-read accounts of that day, and give thanks ... we must not forget. It was the worst attack ever on American soil.

I enjoyed helping SWAC Niece with her homework tonight as we drilled social studies for a big test on Friday. She was only five years old when 9/11 occurred. We ended up watching a movie on TV with her stretched out on the sofa and her head on my lap ... those are the moments to savor.

Tomorrow it will not be over. It never goes completely away. We can never let our guard down.

9/11 ... may we never forget.

Rush Limbaugh: Of course 9/11 politicized

Rush Limbaugh ... check it out.

Jim Gilmore, VA's 9/11/01 Governor, remembers that day....

JIM GILMORE SALUTES FALLEN PATRIOTS OF 9/11 - “We must continue to do everything we can to keep America safe and free.”

In commemoration of the anniversary of September 11th, former Gov. Gilmore and his wife Roxane today attended the Pentagon Memorial dedication event held this morning, honoring the 184 patriots whose lives were lost at the Pentagon and on American Airlines Flight 77, during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Following the solemn event, Gov. Gilmore offered these moments of reflection from that day:

"Just like our parents and grandparents could vividly remember exactly what they were doing on December 7, 1941, current generations clearly remember where they were on 9/11 when the planes hijacked by terrorists were crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

"I found myself at the Governor's mansion in Richmond that morning preparing for a busy day of work at the State Capitol. While watching the morning’s news, Roxane and I became aware a plane had hit one of the Twin Towers in New York City and jointly watched as the second plane was deliberately flown into the second tower. As the chairman of a bipartisan commission on homeland security which had warned about the possibility of a terrorist attack on American soil, I immediately began the process of putting Virginia's emergency operations on alert. And, as I did so, the Pentagon was attacked killing 184 Americans right here in our Commonwealth of Virginia.

"As the day developed, I traveled to the Pentagon site to meet with the first responders working to help those hurt in the attack. Later, I visited the hospitals where survivors, and some of the firemen who had been injured as they worked to rescue the victims of this horrid attack, were being treated. The scenes of valor and heroism of that day are forever etched in my memory and continue to inspire me to this day. I hope this day reminds every American to stay vigilant against future terrorist attacks and that we continue to do everything we can to keep America safe and free."

May we never forget.

9/11/01 ... where were you?

We all remember where we were on 9/11. Add your story ... I hope to add mine tonight.

We must never forget....

Coulter: "Bush 7, Terrorists 0"

Ann Coulter does it again ... nailing the facts straight out about America under President George W. Bush's leadership and the safety we have enjoyed as a result. She writes:

Morose that there hasn't been another terrorist attack on American soil for seven long years, liberals were ecstatic when Hurricane Gustav was headed toward New Orleans during the Republican National Convention last week. The networks gave the hurricane plenty of breaking-news coverage -- but unfortunately it was Hurricane Katrina from 2005 they were covering.

On Keith Olbermann's Aug. 29 show on MSNBC, Michael Moore said the possibility of a Category 3 hurricane hitting the United States "is proof that there is a God in heaven." Olbermann responded: "A supremely good point."

Actually, Olbermann said that a few minutes later to some other idiotic point Moore had made, but that's how Moore would have edited the interview for one of his "documentaries," so I will, too. I would only add that Michael Moore's morbid obesity is proof that there is a Buddha.

Hurricane Gustav came and went without a hitch. What a difference a Republican governor makes!

As many have pointed out, the reason elected officials tend to neglect infrastructure projects, like reinforcing levees in New Orleans and bridges in Minneapolis, is that there's no glory when a bridge doesn't collapse. There are no round-the-clock news specials when the levees hold. You can't even name an overpass retrofitting project after yourself -- it just looks too silly. But everyone's taxes go up to pay for the reinforcements.

Preventing another terrorist attack is like that. There is no media coverage when another 9/11 doesn't happen. We can thank God that President George Bush didn't care about doing the safe thing for himself; he cared about keeping Americans safe. And he has, for seven years.

If Bush's only concern were about his approval ratings, like a certain impeached president I could name, he would not have fought for the Patriot Act and the war in Iraq. He would not have resisted the howling ninnies demanding that we withdraw from Iraq, year after year. By liberals' own standard, Bush's war on terrorism has been a smashing, unimaginable success.

A year after the 9/11 attack, The New York Times' Frank Rich was carping about Bush's national security plans, saying we could judge Bush's war on terror by whether there was a major al-Qaida attack in 2003, which -- according to Rich -- would have been on al-Qaida's normal schedule.

Rich wrote: "Since major al-Qaida attacks are planned well in advance and have historically been separated by intervals of 12 to 24 months, we will find out how much we've been distracted soon enough." ("Never Forget What?" New York Times, Sept. 14, 2002.)

There wasn't a major al-Qaida attack in 2003. Nor in 2004, 2005, 2006 or 2007. Manifestly, liberals thought there would be: They announced a standard of success that they expected Bush to fail.

As Bush has said, we have to be right 100 percent of the time, the terrorists only have to be right one time. Bush has been right 100 percent of the time for seven years -- so much so that Americans have completely forgotten about the threat of Islamic terrorism.

For his thanks, President Bush has been the target of almost unimaginable calumnies -- the sort of invective liberals usually reserve for seniors who don't separate their recyclables properly. Compared to liberals' anger at Bush, there has always been something vaguely impersonal about their "anger" toward the terrorists.

By my count, roughly one in four books in print in the world at this very moment have the words "Bush" and "Lie" in their title. Barnes & Noble has been forced to add an "I Hate Bush" section. I don't believe there are as many anti-Hitler books.
Read the entire column here. Thank you, President Bush. You will go down as one of the greatest presidents in history.

H/T GOP Girl

President Bush observed 9/11 with moment of silence....

President George W. Bush observed the seventh anniversary of 9/11 this morning at the White House with a moment of silence as he has each year since the attacks on America:
The moment of silence at the White House [occurred] at 8:46 a.m. -- the exact time that terrorists slammed the first of two jetliners into the World Trade Center. The Pentagon was struck about an hour later. Joining the president [was] First Lady Laura Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, members of Congress, Cabinet members, military officials and about 3,000 White House employees and guests.

The Pentagon ceremony will include a wreath laying, music and a reading of the names of the 184 who died on Flight 77 and inside the building. The Pentagon Memorial was built at a cost of $22 million on a 1.9-acre parcel of land adjacent to the Pentagon and within view of the crash site.

"The president thinks about 9/11 every single day when he wakes up and before he goes to bed," White House press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday. "This is what he's concerned about. He's always been concerned about another attack on our country. Thankfully, we haven't had one."
No additional terrorism attacks have occurred on America under the leadership of President Bush. For that, we are thankful to him and to our military who fight to keep us safe. May God bless America.

9/11/01 ... where were you?

On this eve of the 9/11 attacks on America in 2001, I am in mourning again for what happened in our nation. Various networks are covering the story ... the twin towers are crashing again ... the Pentagon is slammed into by a plane ... Flight 93 crashing into the Pennsylvania countryside.

Too many have a 9/10/01 attitude about the dangers out there ... about rampant terrorism that is constantly a threat ... about Operation Iraqi Freedom and the need for our military to be there to protect us here at home ... but do we appreciate it?

The heroes of Flight 93 ... may we never forget.

The heroes of the NYPD ... may we never forget.

Have you forgotten?
