Leaders lead ... anonymous blog trolls cower

My blogging colleague Jim Hoeft at Bearing Drift posted about the fact that George Allen, one of Virginia's U.S. Senate candidates, now has not one, not two, but three trackers, courtesy of the Democrats and like-minded groups.

Three video cameras, mind you, to try and catch him in any trip-up or slip-of-the-tongue during the numerous campaign stops, talks, speeches, meet-and-greets, and endorsements he is engaged in for the campaign. Election day for him is still a year-and-a-half away.

In the comments section is the usual array of naysayers. Any leader worth his salt has them, and walking through the mine field makes him a stronger and better candidate.

Vitriolic responses have become common in this day and age of anonymous commenters, those faceless individuals who lurk in the blogosphere as trolls for their chosen targets. Though the blogosphere has changed and in some ways grown up in the past 10 years, some didn't grow up with it.

George Allen, George W. Bush, Bob McDonnell ... they are all targets for the darts and arrows along with the slanderous lies and rumors. Wouldn't it be nice if those anonymous commenters came out from the shadows and faced their targets head-on?

Would they?

I'm betting no because their game is a coward's game and a reminder of this Theodore Roosevelt saying:
"The credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood ... who if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."
Cowards don't put their necks on the line because they are afraid of failure. Meanwhile, leaders continue on. If George Allen had not stepped back into the arena, he could have safely remained on the sidelines ...

... but that's not the way of a leader.

Dem blogosphere: desperate times call for desperate headlines

It's not a stretch to feel as if the Democrat bloggers are getting desperate in these final weeks of the 2009 campaign season as seen by the ridiculous headlines going through Blog Net News.

Bob McDonnell is doing well as the Republican gubernatorial candidate as indicated by his consistent lead in polls since June, and racking up impressive endorsements throughout the state. In response, one Democrat blog's headline screamed out:
VIRGINIA WOMEN BE VERY SCARED OF BOB McDONNELL!!!
Um, yeah ... I'm quaking in my boots.

Another Democrat blasts:
On Transportation, Wash Post Praises Deeds, Bashes McDonnell.
Where's the news? Was it supposed to be the part about the Washington Post being for the Democrat and slamming the Republican? That's not news ... that's expected.

Then we have this alarmist headline by someone who obviously has not noticed that ACORN is crashing to the ground and former Green Jobs Czar radical with communist ties Van Jones has been dismissed from the Obama administration:
Glenn Beck Kills Frogs Live On The Air.
It was a rubber frog, for pete sake. It happened on Wednesday's show and even former Ambassador John Bolton was sitting there and proved it was rubber. Chill out and get your facts straight!

But the one that takes the cake this week is this out-of-control and completely irresponsible headline from someone who is supposed to be, I think, a lawyer:
The Republican Party murdered a census worker Sunday.
I guess a lawyer would know slanderous language and certainly would not go near it....

Things must be really bad on the Democrat side of the aisle with their wild attacks of messengers and using diversion tactics to this extent. Liberal trolls are out there working the blogosphere, too.

Stay tuned ... I'm sure the last six weeks leading up to Election Day will see even more drama as the Democrats grab for any dirt, trash, or half-truths they can find to throw at Republican candidates. It's too bad we can't have rational debate and discuss issues.

Get your popcorn and enjoy the show because you have to laugh ... otherwise you would slam the computer screen with your shoe!

Don't feed the trolls....


Troll, n., giant, demon: a dwarf or giant in Scandinavian folklore inhabiting caves or hills: also,

... people who are just being rude and obnoxious who generally try to offend, shock, harass, and/or abuse who otherwise annoy people.
We ask that you not feed the trolls for this reason:

Dealing with trolls can often be difficult, but they should not go unwarned, un-removed or unbanned. Trolls can destroy a community, and often this is their goal.

One of the more prominent trolls who has stalked the SWAC blogs is exposed by RightsideVA.
