Flashback 2008: Even though the Republican National Convention was held in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, four years ago -- nowhere near an ocean or hurricane -- the start was delayed due to Hurricane Gustav, a potentially devastating Category 4 storm heading for that part of the Louisiana coastline that saw Hurricane Katrina in 2005 cause massive destruction in New Orleans.
Out of respect for those in Gustav's path, the start of the 2008 convention was delayed. I remember. My daughter and I were there.
This year the convention is being held in Tampa, Florida ... in August ... in hurricane season. And what is bearing down on Tampa even as we speak? Hurricane Isaac has Florida's western coast and Panhandle in its sights as it crosses the Caribbean and enters the Gulf and, once again, the start of the Republican National Convention has been delayed.
Déjà vu.
