Change the 5th District in November

Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA 5th) has only served one term in the U.S. Congress but his votes over the past 18 months have put him at odds with many of his constituents.

While the Democrats who dominate the Fifth District's urban Charlottesville area are probably happy with his record, constituents in the rural areas are hopping mad that he has broken campaign promise after campaign promise made while running against former Representative Virgil Goode.

RPV has a new video to highlight Perriello's promises.

He promised to bring change to the 5th District. He promised to change health care while improving Medicare and reducing the deficit. He promised to change the way the 5th District pays taxes by lowering their tax burden.

Has he done that?

Rep. Perriello certainly has brought change to the 5th District ... just not the kind he promised. He did change heath care, by limiting access to doctors, raising the federal deficit, and levying the first ever tax on simply being alive.

Even the Democratic head of President Obama's deficit commission agrees:

“It didn’t do a lot to address cost factors in health care. So we’ve got a lot of work to do,” said Erskine Bowles, former White House chief of staff to President Bill Clinton, speaking about the new health law, which was signed into law by Obama this past spring after a nearly year-long fight in Congress.

And Rep. Perriello is about to change the tax burden for middle class families ... even Steny Hoyer is talking about raising taxes on middle class families to help balance the whopping $13 trillion budget.

Perriello himself said just Wednesday that he wants to see the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 expire.
But then again, what else can you expect from someone who votes with Nancy Pelosi 90 percent of the time?

That’s why RPV has released a new web video “Change?” which highlights some of the "changes" Tom Perriello has been a part of this year. November can’t get here soon enough so the voters in the 5th District can properly thank Tom Perriello — by giving him his pink slip.

The next "change" Tom Perriello needs to make is a change of occupation.

Christian Schoenewald running for 5th CD Chairman

Albemarle County Republican Committee's current chairman, Christian Schoenewald, has announced his candidacy for Chairman of the 5th District. On his website he talks about his interest in politics:

I have been interested in politics for most of my life. I remember as a kid living in Reston, Virginia, arguing with my friends about who should be President: Carter or Reagan. I'll let you guess which side I was on. I attended high school in Minnesota and joined the Speech & Debate Team because I liked to argue about current events and the policies of our government. I ultimately finished my education at American University. In my final six months at AU, I had the great honor to work for the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget.

There was not one single event that got me to be politically active, nor a piece of legislation, a candidate or some event. All the way back to childhood I have been interested in how and why our country works. However after working at the White House I decided that the bureaucratic path was not the way to get 'less government' to happen. Thomas Jefferson has always popped up in my life, from being the kid in class who was assigned to do reports on him to turning on the TV and randomly seeing a show about him. So in 2003 when my wife, Rachel, and I moved to Charlottesville, I took it as a sign that it was time to really get involved in politics.

In 2005, I ran for the Board of Supervisors in the most liberal district in Albemarle County. Despite not winning, I took what I learned in the campaign and applied the lessons to being a part of local party leadership. I served two years as the Albemarle Committee Vice Chairman. In 2007 I was elected to serve as one of the 5th District Vice Chairmen, a position I hold still. During the last two years I have also served as the Chairman of the Albemarle County Republican Committee. During my time as chairman, Albemarle has once again become a "Red" county, taking the majority on our Board of Supervisors and voting for Bob McDonnell for Governor.

Tom Perriello (D-5th CD) supports ideology of Dems instead of economic interests of working people

"Thank you Tom Perriello -- for stabbing the working people of the 5th District in the back."

So begins a column by John Barnhart in the Bedford Bulletin. He goes on to say:

On June 29, 41 House Democrats had the courage to stand up to Supreme Leader Nancy Pelosi. They voted against her cap-and-trade energy bill. Congressman Perriello was not one of them. He voted for this nightmare, which narrowly passed the House of Representatives by seven votes.

Writing about lost jobs, ideology over "global warming," and industry moving overseas, Mr. Barnhart lays it on the line. He ends by saying:

So, thank you Tom Perriello for supporting the ideology of your party’s well-heeled elite instead of the economic interests of the 5th District’s working people.

Indeed.
