Break's over ... Congress returns to D.C.

They're back. Congress returns to D.C. Monday from their five-week summer break with plans to tackle a full schedule. First up is the controversial decision on whether to use military force in Syria, a subject that has divided Americans on both sides of the political aisle. Another hot-button topic is facing those who want a government shutdown in October when the new fiscal year begins. Immigration is still front-and-center and promises to cause fireworks. Other issues concern the NSA and government surveillance, gun control, voting rights, closing Guantanamo, and food stamp cuts.

From USA Today:
Congress returns today with 39 legislative days scheduled before the end of the year to debate the most consequential foreign policy vote (Syria) under President Obama, resolve pressing budget deadlines and determine whether an immigration overhaul has a fighting chance before the 2014 elections. Expectations are low for great successes in a divided institution plagued by partisan intransigence and abysmal approval ratings.
Majority Leader Eric Cantor published Monday's schedule for the House of Representatives.

Frank Wolf: Benghazi survivors forced to sign non-disclosure agreements

Stunning news was delivered today on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives by Virginia Congressman Frank Wolf (R-10th District) who had questioned earlier this week why no survivors of the Benghazi, Libya, terrorist attack had testified publicly before Congress.

The September 11, 2012, attack on the American Embassy resulted in the deaths of four Americans including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, U.S. Foreign Service Information Officer Sean Smith, and two embassy security officers who were former U.S. Navy Seals, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. Questions have been raised with some allegations the White House tried to cover up what happened that night.

The Weekly Standard reported Wolf's remarks from the floor of the House as he revealed the answer to his question:
"According to trusted sources that have contacted my office, many if not all of the survivors of the Benghazi attacks along with others at the Department of Defense, the CIA have been asked or directed to sign additional non-disclosure agreements about their involvement in the Benghazi attacks. Some of these new NDAs, as they call them, I have been told were signed as recently as this summer."
He went on to say:
"If these reports are accurate, this would be a stunning revelation to any member of Congress, any member of Congress that finds this out and also more importantly to the American people. It also raises serious concerns about the priority of the administration's efforts to silence those with knowledge of the Benghazi attack in response."
Wolf said he supported a Select Committee, along with 159 of his colleagues, to learn what happened the night of September 11, 2012, in Benghazi.

Eric Cantor says ObamaCare delay should be permanent

Bowing to the reality that ObamaCare isn't quite ready for prime time, the White House announced on Tuesday that it was delaying the employer health care mandate for a year.

In response, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) noted that the best cure for ObamaCare would be a permanent delay:
"This further confirms that even the proponents of ObamaCare know it will hurt jobs, decrease economic growth and make it harder for families to have access to quality and affordable health care," Cantor said. "Rather than continuing to delay the predictable pain until another election day has passed, we should scrap this entire law and instead implement patient-centered reforms before any more damage is done to our economy or the health care families depend on."
Interesting that the announcement was made barely 24 hours before the Independence Day holiday and while President Barack Obama was out of the country.
