Kohl's saves energy?
What they must be saving is 30% in air conditioning costs. It began last summer when we noticed it was warm in the store. Today was the same. As the outside temperature rose to over 80 degrees in Waynesboro, inside it was stuffy. With no ceiling fans and no windows, the air inside the store was still and patrons fanned themselves even as the "energy efficient" announcements placed over and over.
After Kohl's, we went grocery shopping at Martin's. As we walked in the door and the air conditioning hit us in the face, we both said, "Wow! That's feel sooo good."
Message to Kohl's: We're all for saving energy but when shopping for clothes, it's nice to not be sweaty in the store. Could you turn the air conditioning up a bit? Thank you from a customer.

McAlister's Deli now in Waynesboro
The newest eatery to open in Waynesboro's westend is McAlister's Deli, located in front of the Target/Kohl's shopping center. With plenty of comfortable indoor seating and patio dining available, it offers a great place to meet friends and grab a bite to eat.Sitting on the patio overlooking the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, it is the best of both worlds ... good food and great scenery. The menu is varied with something for everyone ... from croissant sandwiches to stuffed potatoes to salads to desserts ... with gracious servings.
McAlister's was busy when a friend and I stopped there recently for a late lunch but the line moved quickly with plenty of friendly staff taking orders. Others cleared plates from the table and refilled drinks so, while you have to stand in line to order your lunch at the counter, once seated they take care of the rest. We spent over two hours there and the entire time servers came by to refill drinks.
The price is right, the food is good, the service is excellent. There is even a sign that says no tips are expected, and any collected will be given to charity. It reminded me of Ukrop's Supermarkets in Richmond ... no tips are expected nor solicited for the guys carrying groceries to your car.
If you are in the Target area of Waynesboro, be sure to check out McAlister's Deli for a casual but yummy, filling meal.
McAlister's Deli is located off I-64 in Waynesboro, Virginia. Take exit 94; turn south one block to Target Shopping Center on the left.

Waynesboro ... retail thriving in westend
The glorious Blue Ridge Mountains rise behind the new Target Shopping Center in Waynesboro.
Construction continues with Target in background.
New Sonic Drive-In located near Wal-Mart in Waynesboro.
Was over in Waynesboro and surrounding area today on campaign business so decided to stop in the new Target store to check it out and pick up a few things. The location is beautiful ... it's where the old Outlet Mall used to be ... with the Blue Ridge Mountains prominent in the background. Michael's and Pet Smart are open as well as several smaller stores. Kohl's is under construction.
After finishing at Target we headed across the interstate to the westend shopping hub and ate lunch at the just-opened-a-week-ago Sonic's Drive-In which was packed with the lunch crowd. As we munched on fast food we talked about the Sonic's that we had eaten at years ago in Wyoming ... it was flat and blustery and everything on the window trays blew away in the persistent, constant wind.
Waynesboro has done a great job attracting retail outlets to their westend. It was busy today with cars and shoppers which creates a good tax base for the city. It was the vision of Reo Hatfield, Frank Lucent, and Tim Williams on City Council that brought such a bustling economy to a city that had fallen somewhat on hard times. In thanks, the citizens voted Reo out of office because they forgot what he had done to help the city ... but his vision lives on.

New Waynesboro Target opens today
The new Target store opened today at 8:00 am and is a welcome addition to the shopping lineup in the SWAC area. The first store to open in the Waynesboro Town Center, Target will eventually be joined by others including Michaels, Kohl's, TJ Maxx, and Bed, Bath and Beyond. With a local Town Center, trips to Target in Harrisonburg and Short Pump will be eliminated. Shopping just became a whole lot easier in this part of the Valley.
