Pfc. John P. Harris

Pfc. John Palmer Lee “John P.” Harris, USMC, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at Barstow, Calif. while in service to his country.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1985, at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Pfc. Harris is the son of Thomas and Nancy Harris of Mount Solon, Va.

He graduated from Buffalo Gap High School in 2004 and joined the USMC in September of 2006. He graduated from basic training in December 2006. In January of 2007 he went to Camp LeJeune N.C. for his combat training.

From February 2007 to May 2007, he was assigned to assault amphibious vehicle repair tech school at Camp Pendleton, Calif. His permanent duty station was Camp Pendleton. He passed away while in logistics training in Barstow, Calif.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Michael Harris, Joshua Harris and Shannon Harris, all at home; one sister, Angie Harris of Lafayette, Ind.; grandparents, Nancy Mortimer of Mount Solon, Va. and Calvin and Carol Halterman of Montrose, Colo. Also surviving are a maternal uncle, Bill Mortimer and wife, Anna, of Mount Solon; first cousins, Brian and Angela; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins on the father’s side across the U.S. and numerous friends. He will be sorely missed by all.

Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mount Solon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the USMC Toys for Tots, P.O. Box 1947, Quantico, VA 22134.
