Snow!
It began in Harrisonburg a little past 3:00 Monday afternoon, rain mixed with snow at first. I turned my vehicle to head home to Augusta County and, by the time I pulled into my driveway 30 minutes later, snow was covering the ground as big fluffy flakes came down.
Two hours later 2" was covering the ground, the picnic table, and the vehicles ... and still coming down. The forecast had called for 1-2" so we have passed that point.
On this Groundhog Day 2009, when the groundhog could have seen his shadow this morning because it was sunny and warm (six more weeks of winter), it was a surprise to see the dark clouds move in, the wind pick up, and the temperature drop as quickly as it did.
We are couched in by the woodstove ... the twinkly miniature white snow lights are on ... and we are enjoying the winter wonderland.
It's winter in the Shenandoah Valley....
