Another cold morning in the Shenandoah Valley

Flashback - December 19, 2009: Drifting snow is piled against the porch as boxwoods were completely covered. Strong northern winds caused three- to four-foot snow drifts.

Last weekend's snow was light but pretty in the yard.

If there was an outdoor ice skating rink in the area, it would have been frozen solid for a week as we continue with cold temperatures in the Valley and surrounding mountains. For the second morning in a row, it was 9 degrees at our home west of Staunton with light frost

With errands to run and baking to do, the cold temps make it feel seasonal as Christmas approaches. We are spending time with family and friends, and taking in holiday activities around the area.

Don't forget The Nutcracker ballet this weekend at Lee High School in Staunton. Performances are Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, while visions of sugar plums dance in our heads, we also have dreams of a White Christmas. After that wish became a reality last year, dare we dream it could happen again? Here's a look back at the snow last December ... the winter of 2009-10.
