Eric Cantor discussed taxes & ObamaCare on WRVA

From Rep. Eric Cantor's office....

In case you missed it, here are a few highlights from Congressman Cantor discussing the tax package and the ObamaCare ruling on WRVA this morning.

Listen to the full interview HERE.

Cantor On The Tax Agreement:  “About 80 percent of this tax bill is the kind of tax relief that most Virginians and Americans voted for in November.  The largest part of the bill has to do with extending tax rates for all Americans at all income levels.  Also, in the bill is the provision to deal with the Alternative Minimum Tax that would begin to hit individuals making well below $100,000, as well as the reduction in the death tax or the inheritance tax.  If you combine that with some of the ability for businesses to expense their outlays for capital and business expenditures as well as the payroll tax holiday you’re at about 84 percent of the entire bill.”

“This is a Democrat controlled lame duck Congress and we’ve got President Obama in there and they have also advocated for spending in the unemployment insurance area without finding other ways to cut back to pay for that.”

On The New Republican Majority & Cutting Spending:  “That’s what’s going to be different come January 5 when the new Congress is sworn in.  Republicans pledged to finally begin to shrink government and that starts with cutting spending.  You will see us putting bills across the floor which will cut spending as a first step to take discretionary spending back to 2008 levels.”

“We’re going to go through a series of rescission bills beginning in January that will go after this type of pork barrel spending. We’ll begin to put on display the type of agency action under the Obama Administration that not only is wasting taxpayer money but is also killing jobs. Let’s remember maintaining these tax rates and reducing spending is consistent with the kind of commonsense conservative limited government that we believe works and it will also benefit folks because it will create more confidence and we can get this economy going again and get more people back to work.”

On The VA ObamaCare Ruling:  “The reaction I think is reflective of where most folks are in the country, which is they are taken aback by a Congress and a White House that moved in such an arrogant manner.  That Congress and Washington has the ability to require people to purchase health care insurance that perhaps they feel they don’t need or they can’t afford.  This is a true constitutional issue and Judge Hudson ruled that the move by Congress and the signing of the bill by the White House was unconstitutional.”

“Unfortunately, we heard from the Justice Department yesterday that they are not going to go along with an expedited review of this bill that would send it directly to the Supreme Court.  Now what that means is there is going to be an awful lot more uncertainty surrounding health care.  This is a job killing health care bill too because businesses don’t know how much it’s going to cost them to hire people given this health care bill.”
