In which a Facebook update becomes a post....

A mid-day Facebook status update ...
Window open over-looking back yard on a cool, overcast day listening to rain drops, birds twittering, a distant cow....
... turned into a blog post. Somehow, one brief sentence didn't do it justice because there was so much more going on.

At the end of a week that had unseasonably high temperatures in the upper 70s, today is a quiet, overcast TGIF day that caused me to pause and listen.

With the window wide open at mid-day, the temperature is a cool 65 degrees and a gentle rain is falling with drops plopping on the porch roof, on the garden bench, on leafless tree limbs, and on rhododendron leaves.

A variety of birds can be heard ... some tweeting, some trilling, some shrieking in quite a lively feathered symphony while crows can be heard cawing in the woods. A little rain doesn't slow them down as they communicate with each other in their search for berries and bugs.

Across the back yard, through the woods, up and over the ridge behind the house, a distant cow can be heard from a neighboring farm even as the rain starts to picks up and the sky darkens. The earthy smell of rain is intoxicating and the conditions are right for a nap if the time can be forfeited.

It's a rainy day which just proves that all nice days don't have to be sunny....
