Afton Mountain shooting

The Afton Inn was the scene of a shooting late Wednesday afternoon. An unidentified victim was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center after being shot in the chest. Residents who spoke of the shooting were long-termers. The man who was shot had lived there six months; others have lived there several years.

It is further evidence of the sad decline of Afton Mountain which could be a jewel in the crown of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Amid the burned-out and crumbling buildings is the Tourism Center for visitors along the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway.
