Overnight rain in the Shenandoah Valley ... freeze watch Saturday night

A steady overnight rain has autumn leaves falling in the Shenandoah Valley, covering the ground and making roadways slick. Many trees are at peak this weekend but are losing leaves as the rain pelts down.

With overnight temps in the 60s and windows open, it was comforting to hear the pitter-pat of raindrops throughout the night. The Valley was dry so we needed the moisture, and it is usually a late-October rain that removes many of the leaves from the trees.

This rain brings a cold front that will plunge overnight temperatures into the 30s with a freeze watch issued for Saturday night. Daytime highs will be in the 50s and 60s.

All those summer flowers that have been clinging on will be in danger ... remaining garden veggies may be damaged.

It's autumn in the Shenandoah Valley ...
