Valley: Ice and freezing rain in forecast

Winter weather continues in the Shenandoah Valley as the weatherman warns of impending icy precipitation late this afternoon changing to freezing rain with "significant icing" possible.

Ouch.

The sky is overcast and temperature at mid-day stands at 38 degrees as we prepare just in case the "significant icing" occurs and we lose electricity. Woodstove is going, firewood stacked on porch outside the door, flashlights ready ... we can cook and heat with the woodstove so we'll be fine. Check out WHSV's website for the latest weather news.

The calendar doesn't say it's official yet ... but it's winter in the Shenandoah Valley....

UPDATE 6:30 pm: Icy rain began around 4:00 this afternoon and mixed with sleet soon after. The deck is now covered with a sleet/snow combination as the temperature hovers around freezing. The weather forecast says high in upper 40s tomorrow followed by a cold front and daytime highs in the 30s for the next week.

We're all safely home ... woodstove is going ... Christmas tree is lighted ... twinkly outdoor lights are shining in the darkness ... it feels like Christmas!

Unpossible. Didn't you hear that this is the hottest decade evah?

Wonder when Obama will want to tax wood because coal, gas, and oil have been bankrupted? Remember, burning wood puts out CO2......you know, that CO2 it used to, oh.....I don't know....grow?

If Congress would hold its collective breath for one hour, global warming would be solved. I think the EPA needs to enforce that to prevent the outgassing of CO2.

LOL. Yes, I heard we were supposed to be in the hottest decade ever. They've lost all credibility after the emails were hacked ... now if the American people will just stand up to this roving band of UN bandits and refuse to give one cent to anything that has to do with global warming. Thanks for my laugh of the day!
