Friday at the Republican Advance - updated throughout the day

It's a rainy, foggy day in Hot Springs as Republicans from throughout Virginia arrive for the big Advance weekend (started 30 years ago, it's "advance" because the powers-that-be said Republicans don't "retreat," they "advance"). It was quiet yesterday with a few early arrivals. My reason for being a day early was the enjoy the quiet before the place got blown out with guests, not just Republicans, for the weekend.

It's mid-day and registration has opened.

1:00: It should be an interesting State Central meeting today ... how will this year's losses be addressed?

2:00: Many familiar faces roaming the hallways....

Tonight at 8:00: Suite 1406 for the Young Guns Virginia Hospitality Suite with special guests Congressmen Eric Cantor and Rob Wittman. Stop by this happening suite for desserts and drinks and to hear how Virginia Republicans can get back on the winning path.

Other hospitality suites tonight at 8:00:
- Suite 1405: Delegate Barbara Comstock with Citizens United - Friday
- Suite 1535: Former First Lady Susan Allen, Sandy Liddy Borne, and Kate Obenshain for Champagne and Cupcakes sponsored by the Jennifer Byler Institute Alumni - Friday
- Suite 1005: E.W. Jackson will have hot beverages and homemade desserts - Friday

3-4:00: Tea in the Great Hall. The place was packed with familiar faces.

Volunteers are the heart of any organization. Fay Williamson of Chesterfield and Laura Ramirez Drain were manning the sign-up table.

Former Virginia First Lady Susan Allen stopped by and said hello.

The line of vehicles was backed up this afternoon as folks showed up for the weekend.
