Goodbye, Minneapolis ... Republican National Convention comes to a close

After a busy week, the 2008 Republican National Convention came to an end last night as thousands of exhausted delegates cheered their last cheer, gathered up keepsake confetti and McCain signs, and made their way one last time to the buses lined up and waiting to carry us back to our hotels.

The Radisson University has an Applebee's Restaurant that had announced they would stay open later last night for the Virginia and Virgin Island delegations to stop in for a late-night dinner or celebration drink so many of us took them up on the offer. We declared we were Sarah Palin women ... we go to Applebee's to celebrate, not some swanky uptown club!

Kathy Terry, Trixie Averill, Wendell Walker, Mike Thompson, Fay Williams, Tucker Watkins, Brenda Campbell, David Huffman, and a number of others hopped off the bus and trekked straight to Applebee's. Most had been to a Target-sponsored luncheon earlier in the day at the upscale W Hotel in downtown Minneapolis but that had been twelve hours earlier and we were ready for dinner.

John McCain and Sarah Palin sent everyone home to get to work for the next 60 days and bring home a win for the GOP.

I will have an opportunity, once home, to post photos and other stories about the trip. We were kept busy with so many activities that there was little chance to blog.

One thing I will miss is the morning availability of stacks of complimentary newspapers left in the lobby and outside our rooms ... Roll Call, The Hill, Washington Post, New York Times, USA Today, the local Tribune Star ... and numerous magazines. It was a news junkie's dream!

Most delegates are heading out of Minneapolis today ... some are leaving tomorrow. SWAC Daughter and I have a late-afternoon flight so we are in no hurry this morning which is a good thing because we need to sort through the memorabilia and decide what to carry back.

As delegates left the Xcel Energy Center last night for the final time, the local volunteers thanked us for coming. This has been an extremely friendly area.

Goodbye, Minneapolis ... and thank you.

On a night dedicated to celebrating "service" the GOP decided to diminish community organizing. Lovely.

Just like to point out that Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.

Nice photos though. Looks exciting. Safe travels.

But Zen, Obama is not the Christ, Jesus IS! Jesus was not a community organizer, but God incarnate who died for your sins. I hope you know the living God Jesus, if not, just ask and he will change your life.
