Much needed rain started overnight in the central Shenandoah Valley and continued all Sunday, steady with occasional downpours. The temperature peaked out at 52 degrees at my house early in the day and then slowly began to drop throughout the afternoon.
The first report of snow came in a text message to my visiting son whose friend was in Lewisburg, W. Va. It was snowing hard in that area. Next came reports from Snowshoe Ski Resort that a half-foot had fallen with heavy snow still coming down.
Then home school friends in southern Augusta County reported snow around 5:00 Sunday afternoon followed shortly after by a friend at Wintergreen who said it was almost blizzard conditions with heavy snow and wind.
Finally it began at our house but not sure when because it was dark. When I checked the deck at 7:45, it was snowing and sticking, beautiful big wet flakes. WHSV-TV 3 also reported area snow.
No accumulation is expected ... it's 33 degrees outside ... but it's a nice little reminder that technically it's still winter in the Shenandoah Valley....
