Time to start training for the Fourth Annual Montalto Challenge 5K!
Join us for an exhilarating 5K race from the base of the Saunders-Monticello Trail to the top of Montalto!
This year's Montalto Challenge 5K, held on Saturday, May 5 is quickly approaching. The demanding, 3.1 mile all-uphill course winds over stretches of crushed gravel, boardwalk, and asphalt to the summit of Thomas Jefferson's "high mountain" at 1,282 ft, offering thrilling views of Monticello, Charlottesville, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Top prize for men and women is a "King/Queen of the Mountain" jersey and a Jefferson Cup. Awards will also be presented to the second- and third-place overall men and women, and to winners in each age group. All participants receive a special collectors' "Montalto Challenge" t-shirt, and all proceeds go the Thomas Jefferson Foundation to support the preservation and maintenance of the Saunders-Monticello Trail. Registration is required; pre-race registration is $30. On race day, add $5.
