Shawn Smith resigns from RPV

Executive Director moving on....

After being gone all day, I returned home late this afternoon to find an email from Shawn Smith, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Virginia, stating he was resigning from his position effective December 15, 2006.

In the wake of George Allen's loss last week, the shake-up continues within the Virginia Republican Party. Kate Obenshain Griffin resigned as Chairman of RPV effective tomorrow.

Our State Central meeting in December will be interesting ... very interesting, indeed.

Thanks, Shawn, for your leadership the past four years. We wish you well as you move to the next phase of your life.

Apparently not soon enough....

The meeting in Dec will be a bore. The chitchat in the evenings will be interesting.

Looks like the election of Gillespie is shaping up to be a done deal. I don't know of anyone running against him.

I planned on skipping the Advance this year and giving my proxy at State Central to another. I would drive there and back if we were having an election. Think I will stay with Plan A and stay home this year.

Mr. Bowden ... could I persuade you to reconsider? Join us at the Advance and participte in the "chitchat" that will take place not just in the evenings but throughout the weekend. I have found networking with others across the state to be a highlight of the Advance. And think of the ambience at The Homestead ... decorated for Christmas in the mountains and, if we're lucky, a little snow to add to the beauty. I'm looking forward to it.

As to the SCC meeting being boring ... I don't think so. Besides electing a new Chairman we will discuss the loss of George Allen in the U.S. Senate and hear input from members statewide. Should be interesting!

I love the Advance and the networking. My loss. She-who-must-be-obeyed wants a break.

You are right, if the floor is open to talk about the election, then there will be some give and take at SCC. Depends on the stage management of the coronation of the new Chair and how much time Gillespie wants to spend on what.

My vote is still for Paul Harris! Kate and Shawn inherited a difficult situation.
But I am looking forward to a fresh approach, a new look at Republican Party Politics.

I can't wait for the Advanced. Reserved my room and got my ticket.

Elle, I agree it's time for a fresh approach so we shall see what happens at the Advance. Kate has done a great job chiseling away our debt from the lawsuit, and Shawn also stepped in at a difficult time, but after two major losses it's time to look for new leadership. The Advance will offer an opportunity to hear from leaders and grassroots statewide. It will be very interesting....
