The "chicken hawk" insult exists simply to intimidate those who support war (any war at all), and to shut down debate.
No one actually agrees with its premise: that only soldiers and veterans should make decisions of war and peace.
If the chicken-hawk-howlers actually believed this, then they would have to yield to the overwhelming majority of our soldiers and vets who support the Iraq War.
But then they'd actually have to be consistent. They're not interested in that. They only want to try to make the other side look bad.
