Thunderstorms in February?

A much lesser version of the extremely destructive weather that left over 50 people dead in four southern states after 68 tornados touched down Tuesday night has descended on the Shenandoah Valley tonight. Thunderstorms in February are not unheard of but are unusual.

With a high temperature yesterday of 70 and upper 60s today, the short respite is being swept out tonight with high winds, downpours, thunder, and a lightning display to illuminate the mountains. While the thermometer is still sitting at 52 degrees at midnight, it is expected to drop into the 30s by morning and plummet into the single digits this weekend. Sunday's forecast is calling for a wintry mix of precipitation.

It's winter in the Valley....
