Appomattox shooting leaves 8 dead ... Update: Gunman in custody

An ongoing manhunt in Appomattox is in process where a lone gunman is being sought after shooting at a Virginia state police helicopter, rupturing the gas tank and forcing its landing. News is breaking.... H/T to Kat

Update Wednesday 7:30 a.m.: The gunman has surrendered to law authorities:

One victim was found in the the road, four bodies were outside the residence and three were inside, Geller said. She said Speight was acquainted with the victims.

A member of the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors has said the dead included Speight’s wife and son as well as another teenage boy. Full identities of those victims were not available last night. State police said the victims included males and females.

Local schools are closed in the Appomattox area today because of this incident but all are now breathing a sigh of relief.
