Rep. Goodlatte to present oral arguments in Porteous impeachment hearing

Press release from Rep. Bob Goodlatte's office....

Wednesday, August 4th
1:00 p.m.: Congressman Goodlatte, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee Task Force on Judicial Impeachment, along with other Members of the Task Force, will present oral arguments in a Hearing of the Impeachment Trial Committee on the Articles against Judge G. Thomas Porteous, a federal district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

To watch today’s hearing please use the following website: www.sitc.senate.gov.

In March 2010, the House of Representatives unanimously approved four impeachment articles relating to Judge G. Thomas Porteous, Jr. The House Judiciary Committee Task Force on Judicial Impeachment presented the four articles of impeachment to the full House of Representatives, citing evidence that Judge Porteous intentionally made material false statements and representations under penalty of perjury, engaged in a corrupt kickback scheme, solicited and accepted unlawful gifts, and intentionally misled the Senate during his confirmation proceedings. The Task Force concluded that Judge Porteous violated his Constitutional oath by engaging in high crimes and misdemeanors.

In addition to Goodlatte, the bipartisan House Task Force is made up of the following members:

Adam Schiff (D-CA), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Bill Delahunt (D-MA), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Hank Johnson (D-GA), Pedro Pierluisi (D-Puerto Rico), Charles Gonzalez (D-TX), Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI), Dan Lungren (R-CA), Randy Forbes (R-VA), Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
