Hutcheson wins, Boshart loses in Harrisonburg-Rockingham sheriff Republican primary

With just about every Republican elected official behind him, Kurt Boshart was the man to beat in Tuesday's Republican firehouse primary in Harrisonburg and Rockingham.  Boshart, a lieutenant on the Harrisonburg Police Force, was expected to secure the Republican nomination going into the general election in November.

Or so everyone thought.  But a sleeper candidate was in the race. Woodstock Police Chief Bryan Hutcheson won a victory that took hours to announce and revealed a decisive 3,963 to 2,414 win.

Boshart congratulated his opponent on Facebook: "My congratulations to Bryan Hutcheson for his victory tonight! I appreciate all my supporters and the hard work from everyone. Thank You!"

Hutcheson will face Independent candidate Major C. M. Hess of the Rockingham sheriff's department on November 8th.
