SWAC Husband and I drove the Blue Ridge Parkway Saturday afternoon from Afton (MP 0)
to Buena Vista (MP 48). Lowest temp up there was 89 degrees so not as
hot as the Valley but not much cooler. After hopping off, we drove to Lexington's Horse Center
where the Arabian Horse Show was going on and then up Rt. 252 through
Middlebrook back home. There's more than one way to beat the 100+ temps.
I was taken with the tenacity of this Queen Anne's Lace growing out of blacktop and rocks at an overlook that was baking in the 90-degree heat.
There had been downed trees across the Parkway after last weekend's historic derecho storm but all roadways were cleared by Saturday. Some debris was on the shoulders so caution should be used.
