Rep. Keith Ellison , the first Afro American Muslim from Minnesota to serve in Congress, was back in Edina, Minnesota, this week. On July 8th he spoke to a group of Atheists for Human Rights- group that opposes all "authoritarian" religions.
He loves to say that "after 9/11 Muslims and atheists were at the bottom of most polls."
His comment captured in a Minneapolis Star Tribune article about this event was:
"You will always find this Muslim standing up for your right to be atheists all you want."He was playing to a crowd of enthusiastic left wing Democratic Farmer Labor party members with anti-war cant calling the Iraq war "occupation." He also suggested impeaching Vice President Cheney for engineering the Scooter Libby commutation; however, he went a little too far when it came to President Bush.
In an over the top remark he accused Bush of being the equivalent of Hitler, who many believe may have lit the torch figuratively and literally that caused the Reichstag Fire of February 27, 1933 , equating it to 9/11.
He may have taken a cue from an audience member who wore a black tee shirt with "Investigate 9/11."
"It's almost like the Reichstag fire in Nazi German, kind of reminds me of that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and put the leader of that country (Hitler) in a position where he could basically have the authority to do whatever he wanted. The fact is that I'm not saying [Sept. 11] was a U.S. plan, or anything like that because, you know, that's how they put you in the nut-box-dismiss you."He also accused Bush of using so-called Faith Based Initiatives as a Department of Outreach to "the far right wing of the Christian evangelicals."
"That's really all it is," Ellison said in his Edina library remarks.
Alan Fine of the blog, Minnesota Democrats Exposed and GOP candidate who ran against Ellison and lost in the heavily Democratic University of Minnesota Congressional District, had this comment about Ellison that rings true.
"Keith Ellison is among the most extreme among Democrats. His rhetoric can be heard in the halls of states and organizations (like CAIR) that support the terrorists, who would like to rewrite history and would like to destroy our nation."
Fine's dad, by the way, flew 22 Missions as a USAF pilot against Herr Hitler's regime during WWII.
The Atheists for Human Rights, a 350 member group, were ecstatic. Afterwards they got a call from an O'Reilly Factor producer asking for a DVD of Ellison's remarks and a possible stint on the Fox Cable News program.
The group's spokesperson, Marie Castle told Minneapolis Star Tribune reporter Mike Kaszuba who covered the event, "We're trying to upgrade the image of atheists. They don't think we have a moral compass."
I concur with Ms. Castle last observation. This group of atheists has no moral compass by giving a soapbox to Rep. Ellison to prattle his provocative and "incendiary" views.
Apparently, the sponsoring atheist group received objections from fellow atheists about permitting a Muslim to speak. At least those few who objected had a "moral compass."
So what can we expect out of this? A five minute food fight with Ellison on the Fox Cable O'Reilly Factor program giving him an audience of millions and the undying thanks for Ms. Castle and her fellow Minnesotans at Atheists for Human Rights.
Little do they know that Ellison lied to them. They have no rights under Muslim Sharia law. They are just Dhimmis.

9/11 was more like Pearl Harbor than the Reichstag fire. Roosevelt had a pretty good idea PH would be hit but did nothing to stop it...knowing he needed some excuse to get the US into the war. Just like Bush and Cheney were warned and warned and warned that al Qaeda was going to hit the US and did nothing about it because they needed some excuse to hit Irag (even tho the real target was and remained Afghanistan). Ellison's remarks are not totally off base however, since Hitler did use the Reichstag fire to declare a permanent state of emergency in Germany and severely restrict personal freedom in Germany. Bush can not be compared to Hitler very successfully however since Hitler was a crazy genius while Bush is ignorant puppet.
Uh-huh. And we weren't attacked during the eight years under Clinton's rule ... yeah, right.
Tell me another one about how the President was warned during his seven months in office before 9/11 ... compared to Clinton's eight years ... and if you still believe what you're saying I have some beach front property to sell you.
Your bias blinds you....
I find it highly amusing that the "flying Imams" incident took place in Ellison's voting district just as he arrived in power.
I also find it highly amusing that Ellison is a big fan of CAIR, which was recently found to be claimed as un-indicted conspirators in providing funds to Hamas.
Just like Bush and Cheney were warned and warned and warned that al Qaeda was going to hit the US and did nothing about it because they needed some excuse to hit Irag (even tho the real target was and remained Afghanistan).
"Blackhorse" is in dire need of history lessons. Might I suggest a thorough reading of the 9/11 commission report? How about making a factual statement by removing the names Bush and Cheney, and replacing that with the Clinton Administration? If anyone is guilty of not doing their job, it was Clinton for not taking out bin Laden when the chances were ripe.
Of course Clinton could have taken bin Laden out. Please don't assume that because I realize what idiots the Bushies are...I automatically support Clinton. That's the problem...in this country you are assumed to be on one side if you aren't on the other. Given your feeble arguments one must assume that your only goal is to support a specific political point of view not weigh the facts and level the blame where it belongs. It should be clear to any thinking American that Clinton could have stopped al Qaeda and didn't. Bush has done the same thing. We wouldn't even be talking about bin Laben if we'd concentrated on stopping al Qaeda in Afghanistan rather than fighting the war that the PNAC had been planning since 1997. And just look where we are today. If this war wasn't a complete and total cock-up...Rumsfeld's bony-old ass would still be warming a seat in the Pentagon.
While I can agree with your statement on both administrations to a certain extent, there's nothing feeble about the argument because it is factual. You are presenting facts as well, making this a very valid discussion indeed.
I'll be the first paleocon you may ever witness chiding Bush for some of his inactions, but my disappointment with Bush are all for totally different reasons than the left's anger against him.
The Republican Party is in dire need of internal change of policy. Compassionate neo-Conservatism needs to quietly find its way out the back door, and a tougher, less gentler and less "sensitive" Republican needs to take over the reigns of the White House.
That man would be Fred Thompson. He is totally aware of the enemy now facing us. Giving us messages that "Islam is a religion of peace" is like our leader telling us that we will embrace our enemies.
Change is also needed in the military's current ROE. We're too worried about feelings and how the media will report.
I agree, we should have taken care of al-Qaida back in 2001. Too bad our intelligence was out for lunch, as it remains to this day. This also needs to change.
our current seat of government waits far too long for retaliation because they are too busy trying to please and appease everyone on the Senate floor.
good points steve. appreciate your insights.
