RESOLUTION (proposed for RPV State Convention)
Spotsylvania Republican Committee
(Proposed by The American Patriots Committee
April 24, 2008)
Memorializing candidates who run for public office to know and understand the Constitution of the United States, and our founding documents and uphold such.
WHEREAS, the proper role of government of our Constitutional Republic has generated and continues to generate considerable discussion; and
WHEREAS, most recently unelected taxing authorities were being set up in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, in a unanimous decision such unelected taxing authorities were found to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, all elected public officials are required to take a sworn oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the United States; and
WHEREAS, having taken such oath it is a sworn duty of all elected officials holding public office to uphold the Constitution of the United States; and
WHEREAS, there is a clear and present danger that there are elected officials that do not understand or knowingly disregard the proper role of our government; and
WHEREAS, to properly uphold the Constitution of the United States elected officials must know and understand what is meant by the terms and words written in such Constitution, Declaration of Independence and founding documents; and
WHEREAS, as American Patriots we must join together to hold elected officials accountable for their actions or in actions to protect and preserve our God given rights; and, be it
RESOLVED, That the Spotsylvania Republican Committee will no longer support candidates for public office or reelection unless and until they have taken an approved course on the Constitution of the United States and or can prove their competence and understanding of our Constitutional Republic and the proper role of such government through testing provided by The Executive Committee.
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Secretary of the Committee transmit copies of this resolution to the local, state and federal elected officials of Virginia representing our area and to any others that may be seeking such offices that request such.

This is interesting. The committee produced a resolution out of a frustration that some legislators don't understand the constitution, correct? However there is no mention of a need to learn the Virginia Constitution which is what the Virginia Supreme Court ruled HB3202 was in violation of. Maybe before they require those running for office to take some course they should understand more about what they presumeably are upset with.
