Working the 2008 Augusta County Fair ... Day 1

Augusta County Fair on Tuesday

Ferris wheel was busy

The majestic Blue Ridge Mountains are visible from all over the fairgrounds.

It was opening day of the Augusta County Fair and everyone was busy. In the past eight years, I have worked the GOP booth every time except one. We usually arrange our vacation so it does not interfere with the fair or campaign season. It was fun to be back in the swing of things, seeing old friends that I see only on an annual basis at the fair, and catching up with other friends who were visiting the fair or working booths.

Dean and Janet Welty, with the Valley Family Forum, set up the Forum booth across the aisle from the Republican booth. Dave Rexrode and Mike Sargent put the GOP booth together, and then volunteers began showing up to work. It was a full house. Many thanks for the many hands that made for light work.

The Chamber of Commerce held their Business After Hours at the fair with business people from all over gathering to eat, drink, and be merry.

Notable this year: The fair exhibit hall is finally air conditioned! What a relief it was to not be sweltering away in the heat and humidity of August. It is actually comfortable now.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte is tentatively scheduled to be at the booth Saturday night.

If you are at the fair, stop by to pick up a blue Bob Goodlatte helium balloon, some bumper stickers, yard signs, and chat. We look forward to seeing everyone.
