PEACH home schooler wins regional spelling bee

Congratulations to Andrew Traylor with PEACH (Parent Educators of Augusta County Homes) who won the 62nd Annual Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday.

Held at Monticello High School and broadcast on NBC 29, Andrew won out over 32 students from Waynesboro, Staunton, Augusta County, Albemarle County, Nelson County, Charlottesville, Greene County, Peabody School, Miller School, Covenant School, Fluvanna County, Tandem Friends School, and Stuart Hall. He will now participate in the National Spelling Bee to be held in Washington, DC.

I got the call Saturday while in the rural areas of Augusta County collecting assessment petitions for the Wednesday Board of Supervisors meeting ... a fellow home school dad called immediately after the contest concluded to say Andrew had won. Word spread fast.

Congratulations, Andrew! You make all home schoolers proud.

Update: The Waynesboro News Virginian, a co-sponsor of the spelling bee, has a top-of-the-fold front page story with a photo of Andrew.
