Bill Clinton's campaigning didn't help Terry McAuliffe in VA

Bill Clinton hit the campaign trail in Virginia to stump for Terry McAuliffe who was running for the Democrat gubernatorial nomination. One can only imagine James Carville and Paul Begala with their heads together plotting on behalf of their pal, Terry. But none of it helped as McAuliffe lost the Virginia Democrat Primary 24 points behind Creigh Deeds. The third candidate, Brian Moran who was endorsed by Kennedy family members, lost by 26 points behind Deeds.

McAuliffe was leading in the polls for months. What happened? Was it the endorsement of Deeds by the Washington Post? Was it the perception that McAuliffe was an outsider? Was it the thought of the Clinton Machine coming into Virginia for the next five months?

Whatever the reason, Bill Clinton's presence did nothing to help his friend.

I would say it had the reverse effect.
