Humpback Rock in the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the distance, the Blue Ridge Parkway can be seen.
Looking west across the Shenandoah Valley, low clouds hang along the Appalachian Mountain ridge tops.
Struck by lightning ... still standing.
The flora and fauna of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Temperatures were upper 50s in the Shenandoah Valley and 40s on the mountain tops on an overcast day with the possibility of rain showers. Humpback Rock is located approximately five miles south of Afton Mountain and I-64. It's a fairly short but steep hike but the views are spectacular. You may also want to check out the Humpback Rock Farmstead for a peek into yesteryear when life along the Parkway was hard and sometimes lonely.
