Troops authorized to kill Iranian terrorists in Iraq

American troops, trying to stabilize Iraq, have now been authorized to kill or capture Iranian insurgent terrorists in the country.

The Washington Post reports:

The Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq as part of an aggressive new strategy to weaken Tehran's influence across the Middle East and compel it to give up its nuclear program, according to government and counterterrorism officials with direct knowledge of the effort.

This is good news for soldiers and Marines who said they needed their hands untied so they could fight insurgent terrorists who continue to plant IEDs on roadways and hide explosives in vehicles, causing death and destruction in Baghdad and other locations.

But how long has the Bush administration allowed this to go on? MONTHS, if not years. What about Syrian agents that have been caught and sent back to Syria? They should all be shot on sight with no other recourse.

While people panic about a second carrier battle group moving into the gulf, it's not the first time a presidential big stick (a carrier and a battle group) hasn't been maneuvered to the gulf.

When I see a third CVBG move in, action from our ballistic missile assets (our boomer are STILL being used as strictly a deterrent force when they should be used more as an OFFENSIVE force) and when there is activity in Diego Garcia, YES, that is the ONLY time I can honestly say the Bush administration is well on the way to getting something done.

While I support Bush, I guess I'm just an angry, extreme radical right winger that is saying that it's time Bush opens up a major can of whoop-ass in the form of making some serious attritional losses to the enemy, quit farting around, and getting the job done.

Mitt Romney '08 - the only candidate I see that could be effective as President.

Steve, I hear your frustration. Many feel that same frustration.

I fear we missed our opportunity to lead and tell the dems to sit down and shut up while we win this war because we were interested in being civil. Now that the dems are in control of Congress there will be no concessions on their behalf ... it's their way or the highway.

Our cut-and-run from Iraq, as the dems propose, would send an awful message to terrorists and the rest of the world.
