LTE: County officials went after Francis Chester?

A letter to the editor in the March 3 Staunton News Leader:
While reading Feb 27 issue of The News Leader, I noticed a front page story about Francis Chester owing the county "more than $2,500 in taxes." I am still trying to put this story into perspective.

Will any other citizen who disagrees with the county be publicly humiliated or is this special treatment just for Mr. Chester?

Did (Augusta County Treasurer) Mr. Homes call the Leader to report this breathtaking news or did (reporter) Trevor Brown dig up this high impact dirt on his own?

Either way, someone needs a lesson on social ethics.

The News Leader has up to this point shown an appalling lack of interest in the meat of the story, the inflated reasessments that can't be supported. Now they seem all to quick to publish information to discredit the spokesperson of the rollback movement. Intended or not, this appears vindictive in the way it plays out.

The County and the newspaper would have shown a lot of class had they allowed this matter to be settled privately.
