The word is circulating: "This is a major event for the Valley."
The March 11 Augusta County tax revolt tea party will take place at the Board of Supervisors meeting. Petitions are being gathered and signatures counted, word is spreading from neighbor to neighbor, email updates are going out, and the buzz continues.
The independent-minded and self-reliant folks of the Shenandoah Valley are speaking up against outrageous real estate assessments at a time when many have lost jobs, home prices have fallen 18% nationwide in the last quarter of 2008, and housing starts are the lowest since 1959.
Fixed income, retired, farmers, blue collar, white collar, small landowner, large landowner ... this revolt crosses all political and socio-economic lines.
People are fed up.
Join us March 11 at 7 pm at the Government Center in Verona to send a message to the six members of the Board of Supervisors who have not called for rolling back assessments to the 2005 values. Speak up, address the board, let your voice be heard!
Email if you have questions or want to sign a petition asking that real estate assessments be rolled back.
