The doors of the Marriott ballroom are open and people are piling in. I think everyone wants to be in the middle of the action. The big screen TVs are showing the news from Richmond and reinforcing that all eyes in the nation are on Virginia. In 2005 there was a 45% voter turnout so they are hoping to top 50% this year but voter turnout in Richmond has been reported as light.
I talked with my mom who was working the polls in Salisbury in Chesterfield County and she said they were busy this morning ... she was at home as I drove over but was going back to work again in the later afternoon and close it out, take in signs, and head to the Chesterfield victory party.
Polls in my corner of Augusta County appeared to be busy this morning ... 125 had voted at my precinct by 8:00 which is busy for our rural area. It will be interesting to see what overall turnout statewide turns out to be.
Carl Cameron just whisked back into the ballroom and miked up to do a report for Fox News ... a live report with a reporter from a Richmond TV station with Michael Steele is on live now. The excitement level is rising in the room.
The ballroom is now about three-fourths full with a steady stream of people coming through the door. Ed Gillespie is all over the place ... he just swirled through the media area.
Results are being monitored on the laptops from the Virginia State Board of Elections ... not much in yet but what has been reported is lopsided in the GOP favor. Maybe it will stay that way all evening.
George and Susan Allen just flew ... now he's in the press area and climbing up on the platform for a TV interview. Hey Chaz ... George Allen is in the house. :)
