More bad news on the economic front in the central Shenandoah Valley as Waynesboro's nTelos telecommunications company announced 37 layoffs while asking another dozen employees to take early retirement.
In today's Waynesboro News Virginia, nTelos spokesman Mike Minnis explained:
"The economy has certainly had an impact over the past 12 to 18 months and the wireless industry has matured. There is 90 percent penetration for wireless service,’’ Minnis said.nTelos is a regional company that has 1,200 employees. The layoffs follow those of other companies in the SWAC area.
He said attempting to grow and expand wireless in challenging economic times is difficult.
“People are not looking to increase their bills,’’ he said.
