UVA women's lacrosse Yeardley Love dead; men's lacrosse player George Huguely charged

[UPDATE]

A senior player for the University of Virginia's women's lacrosse team is dead, and a member of the UVA men's lacrosse team, reported to be her boyfriend, has been charged with her death.

George Huguely, 22, of Maryland was charged Monday with the first degree murder of Yeardley Love, 22, also from Maryland, after police were called to an apartment off the UVA campus. Police responded around 2:15 a.m. Sunday to a call of a possible alcohol overdose. The University of Virginia and the Charlottesville police department issued statements to the press Monday.

UVA's men's lacrosse team had won their game Saturday against Robert Morris 18-9. On Friday, Northwestern beat the UVA women's lacrosse team, 11-8.

Yeardley Love, #1 on the UVA women's lacrosse team, had played throughout high school and had an uncle, Granville Swope, who was an All-American lacrosse student-athlete at UVA. George Huguely, #11 on the UVA men's lacrosse team, was an anthropology major and All-American standout in the sport.
